Building A Multigenerational Marketing Agency
What does it take to build a multigenerational marketing agency?
Patience.
How do we do this?
Even in a busy marketing agency there are several routine jobs that need to take place that gives opportunity to include our children. This can range from administrative tasks, office cleaning, user testing, feedback circles, systematic entry level tasks for routine processes inside operations, and more!
Why do we do this?
Our hearts have always been focused on the next generation. Our background was in nonprofit organizations working with children, youth, and college aged students. When we started having our own children, this intensified and the desire to raise young people up to be successful became primarily embodied in our family mission. This naturally shifted over to our business that started to grow at a rapid pace between 2014 and 2020, and the opportunities and need were present. It just made sense.
How do you talk to our children about their future in the business?
For starters, we tell each of our children that we plan to give them opportunity at some level in our business while they are growing up. Alicia and I talk and try to figure out ways to involve them at varying levels and in varying ways depending on availability, natural giftings, and in ways we sense could help benefit them for their futures. We talk openly that one or some of them may very well run our business someday and eventually be an owner.
Do only your kids work with you?
No. Definitely not. Our team is made up of a variety of skilled individuals who specialize in certain aspects of our operation: designers, developers, programmers, brand specialists, marketing specialists, and more.
